It’s often hard for me personally to calm my mind or to not worry about the near future. I crave protection, yet become quickly bored when my entire life can be too comfortable. When I was really having difficulty concentrating or deeply concerned with my weight, profession or the near future, I did yoga exercise. I got deep breaths. I valued more stuff. I resided for your day, not for future years. I became okay.
For a few who don’t practice yoga, it’s hard to comprehend how a practice can really change your daily life. But here’s how it has profoundly changed mine:
1) It helped me personally through grief. My father suddenly passed away after i was 18 years old. It had been two days before I had been supposed to keep for university and I usually felt like I had been never given the correct place to experience… well, everything I used to be feeling. I used to be angry, unhappy and heart-broken. Coming to college without the familiar faces to speak to was incredibly difficult so I stuffed most of my emotions inside. I fled the truth of losing my father and desperately feared reduction. But after I started practicing yoga, I could get yourself a better manage on my feelings; it was as though Yoga got this healing power over me and became an exercise of self-compassion. Each course I thought about my father or any nerve-racking situation and praciticed the art of letting it move. Finally I was able to find myself at peace with it.
2) It taught me independence. Granted I’ve been pretty independent, but yoga really taught me how exactly to put myself first. Such as, I needed to be able to accept and like myself before I could give that to anyone else. I wasn’t scared to vary from everyone else. I place my own body and brain first realizing that it gave me a better sense of compassion, understanding and approval of others.
3) It isn’t only a workout. I utilized to believe that Yoga was just a workout that produced you really flexible. Turns out I had been completely wrong; Yoga exercise isn’t just a good workout but it also explains to work on yourself both inside and out. Who cares if you’re not flexible more than enough to climb into a particular pose? Yoga is not only about achieving excellence; it’s the fact that your trying to accomplish better AND be better. Your making yourself better each time you stage on your mat; your practicing awareness of the body, mind and spirit (among others).
So if you’re ever in doubt or experiencing loss, or even if you are just looking for some kind of answer, go to yoga. It’ll comfort you when you are in need of meaning and guidance.
